DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
The Chickasha Public School Foundation (CPSF) award winning, mentoring luncheon event, “DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH” for all CPS 5th grade girls has been sched
uled for Wednesday, February 16th, 2011. It will once again be at USAO Ballroom from 10:30 a.m. to noon. (School students eat early!) Rita Aragon, Major General (retired) and Oklahoma Secretary of Veteran Affairs, will speak to the girls about careers, goals and vision; and etiquette expert, Carey Sue Vega will speak to the students regarding etiquette and manners. Julie Bohannon will speak to the girls about Girls Scouting in Oklahoma. Jay’s Jewelry are partnering with the Foundation to present this program.
CPSF is looking for 45 women in the community to be mentors for the luncheon. Perhaps a Chickasha graduate, a professional women, etc…? The duties and responsibilities of the mentors include:
1) attend the luncheon, arrive at 10:00 a.m., introduce yourself to the young ladies at the table, have a discussion about goals, vision, & careers, and learn the students name;
2) send the students a follow up note of encouragement and;
3) If you aren’t already a member, become a member of the Foundation. Membership is any donation amount (minimum gift of $25.00).
4) Mentors will need to provide contact information including e-mail, mailing address and phone.
2010 was the first year “Diamonds in the Rough” was presented and Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence recognized CPSF with an Outstanding Program Award for Local Education Foundations in October 2010. With the support of the community we have an opportunity to show these students they have choices and should dream big. This program is educational and helps our students learn skills that will benefit them for their entire lives.
